Heads up. The last part to the series I’ve written, entitled “Why Mozilla Deserves Our Attention”, is up on InsideRIA now.

In case you missed the first two, here they are.

Looks like my idea of Super Add-Ons might be possible with Firefox 3!

It appears its all experimental right now, but hey I’m not to proud to gobble up table scraps!

Some shortcomings to note right away:

• Firefox prefs and commandline handlers are still in effect.
• On Mac the dock icon will be Firefox
• On Windows the shared taskbar icon will have the Firefox logo.

Let’s see what we can’t do.

Interesting to see reactions from Adobe and Mozilla to the Google Gears project.

Even though both companies have a platform that has been working on similar functionality, Adobe has welcomed it with open arms by announcing work to align APIs, while Mozilla is keeping it at arms length.

Also, I wonder if all those anti-plug-in purists that hate the Flash Player will take on a double-standard and adopt the Gears plug-in.

There are different levels and types of applications, and different needs. So of course you end up with developers who are more accustomed to application development at various levels. By recognizing some of these differences, we can potentially identify areas for new types of internet applications.
